Right-hander Patrick Murphy submitted a terrific performance, pitching eight innings and allowing one run on two hits in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ 2-1 loss at Reading in an 11-inning Eastern League game on Sunday.
Murphy, a third-round draft pick of the Blue Jays in 2013, fanned seven and walked two, lowering his ERA to 4.56. Ty Tice (0-1) worked the 11th and allowed Luke Williams’ game-winning RBI double.
The Fisher Cats, who outhit the Fightin Phils 9-3, scored their run in the fourth on Kevin Smith’s RBI single that chased home Alberto Mineo, who had singled and moved to third on Chad Spanberger’s double.
New Hampshire headed east to start a three-game series at Trenton starting Monday night.
