NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Despite scoring twice in extra innings, the New Britain Rock Cats outlasted the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in 12 innings, walking off with a 6-5 win Saturday night.
The loss was the third straight for the Fisher Cats (12-15).
New Hampshire catcher A.J. Jimenez had three hits in the loss, including his first home run of the season.
Saturday’s game was a back-and-forth affair, with more than a half-dozen ties or lead changes. In the sixth, Michael Crouse singled home Jimenez to tie the game at 3-3, where it stayed until the 10th.
The Fishers took the lead in the top of the 10th when Nashua’s Kevin Nolan scored on a Jon Berti base hit. The Rock Cats then tied it in the bottom of the inning on a Kennys Vargas homer, his second of the series.
In the 12th, New Hampshire again took the lead, scoring on an error, but Tony Thomas’ two-run homer off Richard Bleier (L, 1-3) gave New Britain the walk-off win.
Fisher Cats starter Aaron Sanchez went 5-1/3 innings, giving up three runs on four hits, while walking four and striking out two.
The Fisher Cats will attempt to avoid being swept in Sunday afternoon’s 1:35 series finale. NH’s Deck McGuire will go for his fourth win against New Britain righty Virgil Vazquez.
The Fisher Cats are back home on Monday to begin a three-game set against the Binghamton Mets.
