Forrest Wall hit a two-run homer and Chad Spanberger drove in two as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Reading Fightin Phils 8-5 in Eastern League play on Saturday night in Reading, Pa.
New Hampshire never trailed as Spanberger's two-run double capped a three-run first inning. After Reading got one back on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first, Wall's homer in the second put the Fisher Cats up 5-1. Kacy Clemens and Vinny Capra had RBI groundouts in the fourth to make it 7-1.
Ali Castillo and Adam Haseley homered for Reading, and Capra's throwing error allowed two more to score in the eighth to bring the Phils back to 7-5, but New Hampshire's Brock Lundquist tripled home Gunnar Heidt to give the Fisher Cats a three-run cushion.
Andrew Sopko (1-2) earned the win with 5 2/3 innings of four-hit, three-run ball. He fanned three and walked two. Bryan Baker set down the side in order in the ninth for the save.
The teams wrap up their weekend series Sunday at 2:15 p.m.
