The Hartford Yard Goats scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning Saturday night to beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-4 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
The teams play Sunday at 1:35 p.m. and Monday at 3:35 p.m.
Mylz Jones singled home Willie Abreu to tie the game and Manuel Melendez hit a sacrifice fly to score Brian Serven with the winning run off Fisher Cats closer Bryan Baker (1-3), who took the loss blew his first save of the season, allowing two runs on three hits.
After Hartford took a 1-0 lead in the fifth on a Bret Boswell RBI double to score Serven, New Hampshire scored four in the bottom of the inning on back-to-back homers by Riley Adams and Patrick Kivlehan. Adams' was a three-run blast.
Hartford scored two in the eighth on Jackson McClelland's wild pitch, scoring Jones, and Colton Welker's RBI double, which scored Melendez.
Chris Rusin (1-0) got the win with three innings of two-hit scoreless relief of Hartford starter Jack Wynkoop. Ben Bowden set down the side in the ninth for his 15th save.
