Dan Arvanitis, who has won the Manchester City Golf Championship 12 times, tops the field after Saturday’s first round of this year’s tournament at Derryfield Country Club.

Arvanitis, 65, who last won the event in 2008, fashioned an even-par 70 to lead Shane Glennon by one stroke. Defending champion David Sherborne, who’s won this three times, Patrick Mahan, Dave Kane and Ryan Sylvester all shot 72 and are two shots behind.

Ryan Cowette, Nate Gardner and Ryan Brown all shot 73 and are three shots back. Former champions David Larrivee and Jake Nutter, and Matt Burroughs all carded a 4-over par 74.

Two-time city champion Matt Paradis shot a 6-over 76.

The second round will be played Sunday at Intervale Country Club, and the final round will be Monday at Manchester Country Club.
