J.B. Holmes used a hole-in-one on Friday as part of an 8-under-par round of 63 to take a one-stroke lead through Round 1 of the Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club in rainy Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Holmes sat a stroke ahead of Jordan Spieth, who shared the overnight lead through 12 holes after Thursday's action was severely weather delayed. Round 1 was completed shortly before 3 p.m. local time on Friday, and play continued straight into Round 2, though some players were not expected to tee off their second rounds until today.

Holmes, who started on the back nine, holed out at the 147-yard par-3 sixth hole, dropping the ball around 20 feet beyond the pin and watching it spin back and into the cup. The ace, Holmes' second on the PGA Tour, got him to 7 under on the round, sharing the lead with Spieth. He added one more birdie down the stretch to take the outright lead.

Justin Thomas and Australia's Adam Scott were part of a group of six players tied for third place through Round 1 after shooting 66.
