Hooksett’s Matt Paradis fired a 4-under-par 68 and held a one-stroke lead after Tuesday’s first round of the New Hampshire Golf Association Stroke Play Championship at Green Meadow Golf Course in Hudson.
Paradis, representing the Concord Country Club, is one stroke better than a logjam of six players tied for second at 69: Green Meadow’s Andy Page, Amherst Country Club’s Josh Farmer, Hanover Country Club’s Pat Pelletier, The Maplewood’s Sam Natti, The Oaks Golf Links’ Harvin Groft and The Oaks’ Taylor Simpson.
Joe Leavitt of Atkinson Resort and Country Club sits in eighth place after a 70.
Paradis, 23, played a consistent opening round, especially over the back nine, where he carded seven pars and two birdie. He tees off at 9:27 a.m. on Wednesday, in a threesome with Pelletier and Leavitt.
The tournament concludes on Thursday.
Bennett leads at N.E. PGA
David Bennett of the Country Club of Vermont shot a 2-under-par 69 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 136 and leads by one stroke at the New England PGA Section Championship being held at Manchester Country Club and Concord Country Club.
Kirk Hanefeld of Salem (Mass.) Country Club, a Claremont native, sits in fourth place after a 70 on Tuesday. He shot a 69 on Monday.
Hooksett’s Rich Berberian Jr., playing out of Vesper Country Club in Tyngsborough, Mass., sits in a tie for 23rd at 6-over.
