Hampstead’s Lauren Thibodeau showed why she is among the favorites at this week’s New Hampshire Women’s Golf Association Amateur Championship.
Thibodeau, a rising sophomore at the University of Louisville, fired a three-under-par 69 in Monday’s opening round to set the pace at Breakfast Hill Golf Club in Greenland. Her playing partner, Litchfield’s Chelsea Sedlar of Passaconaway Country Club, sits in second place after an opening-round 72. Sedlar is a two-time NHWGA State Am champ, in 2016 and 2017.
Thibodeau, of Windham Country Club, won the NHWGA Junior Championship seven years in a row (2011-17).
Sixteen-time champ Dana Harrity of Abenaqui Country Club carded a 76 for sole possession of third place. The other golfers who broke 80 were Derryfield Country Club’s Tara Watt (77), Pembroke Pines Country Club’s Mindy Reid (78) and Portsmouth Country Club’s Shivani Vora (79).
The three-day tourney (stroke play format) continues Tuesday and concludes Wednesday.
