A former men’s lacrosse player at Syracuse University is taking over the reins of the athletics department at Campbell High School in Litchfield.

Jarod Mills, who has been the AD at Campbell for four years and a teacher there for five, has accepted a job teaching physical education at Manchester Central High School.

Josh Knight, who serves as the athletics director Equality Charter High School in the Bronx, N.Y., takes over on Monday. Knight played four years of varsity lacrosse at Syracuse and was part of national championship teams in 2008 and 2009.

“I really wanted to go back to teaching full time,” Mills said Friday of his decision, adding that such a position wasn’t available at Campbell. “Work-life balance. I think I’m cut out for teaching and coaching.”

Mills, who helped the track and wrestling coaches at Campbell, said he is interested in coaching at his new school.

“I really enjoyed my time at Campbell and I would certainly like to thank the parents, students, school board and community members. It really is a wonderful community, very supportive of academics and athletics. I couldn’t think of a better place to be an AD,” said Mills, whose last day at Campbell was Friday. “I will definitely have a place in my heart” for the school.

“Hopefully the success continues in the athletic department. I think Josh will be really successful,” Mills said.
