Freshman Adrian McCarthy’s 3-pointer with .5 seconds left lifted No. 9 Kearsarge of North Sutton to a shocking 50-49 upset of top-seeded Oyster River in a Division II boys’ basketball quarterfinal Saturday night in Durham.

McCarthy’s three followed Max Lewis’ three, which gave the Bobcats a 49-47 lead with 24.8 to go.

The Cougars (13-8) will face No. 5 Merrimack Valley in Monday night’s semifinals at UNH. Oyster River finishes 17-2.

Merrimack Valley 50, Hollis/Brookline 48: Merrimack Valley’s first-half struggles gave way to a strong second half in a Division II boys’ basketball quarterfinal in Penacook.

The fifth-ranked Pride will take on either Oyster River or Kearsarge in Monday’s semifinals.

The No. 13 Cavaliers held an 18-14 lead at the break and had a chance to tie or win with the final possession but a three-point shot missed at the buzzer.

“Talk about winning the game ugly, but we’ll take it,” Merrimack Valley coach Tim Mucher said. “The offense seemed to flow better. We were rushing in the first half.”

Kyle Dube led the Pride (15-5) with 17 points. Dillion McCarthy scored 12 and Griff Wheeler had eight.

Grant Snyder scored a game-high 20 for the Cavaliers (10-10). Dhruv Migliani added 12.
