Despite a four-run first inning, the Pinkerton Academy softball team had its season come to an end Wednesday following a 6-5 home loss to Portsmouth in the Division I tournament’s preliminary round.
Danielle St. Peter, Alyssa DiMauro and Lily Mason each had two hits for fifth-seeded Pinkerton (12-7). Portsmouth, the No. 12 seed, trailed 4-0 until it scored three runs in the fourth. The Clippers (11-9) scored a run in each of the final three innings.
Pinkerton beat Portsmouth 10-8 during the regular season.
Windham 6, Central 1: In Windham, Aislinn Milner had four RBIs to help the sixth-seeded Jaguars (14-7) advance to the Division I quarterfinals. Milner, Peyton Gravell, Larissa Piessens and Lindsey Murphy each had two hits for Windham, which received a complete game (five hits, five strikeouts) from Abby Bedient. Central, the 11th seed, finished with a 10-9 record.
Spaulding 17, Dover 5: In Rochester, seventh-seeded Spaulding (13-7) trailed 4-0 until it scored 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Red Raiders will face second-seeded Salem in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Bishop Brady 9, Prospect Mountain 1: In Concord, Halle Laramie collected three hits, including a three-run home run, to help the Green Giants advance to the quarterfinals. Ami Rivera added three hits and scored three runs for Bishop Brady.
Campbell 8, Winnisquam 0: In Litchfield, Marissa Carignan limited Winnisquam to one hit and struck out nine to help the Cougars move on in the Division III tournament. Campbell had nine hits in the win.
Belmont 11, Conant 5: In Belmont, Morgan Hall pitched four innings of relief to earn the win. Lizzie Fleming went 2 for 3 with a grand slam. Belmont took the lead in the fifth by scoring nine runs to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 10-3 lead.
Plymouth 10, St. Thomas 2: In Plymouth, four errors allowed the Bobcats (12-5) to score three runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth. Jill Cortez pitched a complete game for the Saints (8-9). She allowed eight hits and struck out eight.
Souhegan 15, Nashua South 1: In Amherst, Taylor Clark had six goals and an assist to lead the fourth-seeded Sabers (14-3). Abby Hawkes added four goals for Souhegan, which received eight saves from Alex LaBrosse. Olivia Johnson scored for fifth-seeded South (11-8).
Windham 13, John Stark 4: In Windham, Madi Connelly scored five goals and Olivia Kendzulak finished with three to lead the fourth-seeded Jaguars (10-7).
Windham goaltender Alex Perkins made 14 saves.
Derryfield 10, St. Thomas 6: In Manchester, Olivia Strong scored four goals and Shawna Lesmerises made 15 saves for the Cougars, who outscored St. Thomas 6-2 in the second half. Lucy Licata added three goals for Derryfield.
Hollis/Brookline 18, Hanover 1: In Hollis, Abbey Magnuszewski and Paisley Broadhurst led all scorers with four goals, and Kelsey Sweeney, Tasha White, and Victoria Bruzik each scored three for the Cavaliers. Nicole Heiter added one goal late in the second half to round out HB’s scoring.
