Three days after winning the state Division III football title, Trinity High found enough in the tank to beat visiting St. Thomas Aquinas 35-14 on Wednesday night in the first Bishop’s Bowl.
Trinity sophomore James Thibault led the way with 164 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Junior quarterback Pete Alisandro added 84 yards rushing, including TDs of 15 and 13 yards.
The Pioneers finished 8-1 in the regular season, then swept three opponents, including Lebanon in the state final, to take their first crown since 2011. Trinity did all of that in its second year back in the varsity ranks after playing a junior varsity-only schedule in 2017.
St. Thomas hadn’t played a game since its Nov. 2 regular-season finale, a loss to eventual Division I state champ Hollis/Brookline.
The teams are scheduled to continue the Thanksgiving eve series next season in Dover.
