The opening acts are over. It’s time for No. 1 to play No. 2.
Londonderry High, once again voted the top team in the New Hampshire Union Leader Football Poll — the last three weeks unanimously — will visit No. 2 Bedford on Friday night.
Both teams are 5-0, the Lancers in the South Conference, the Bulldogs in the North Conference. Bedford was the No. 1 team in preseason. The teams have won every game by at least 16 points, although the Bulldogs trailed Manchester Central in the third quarter this past Friday before winning by 17. Londonderry is averaging 47.4 points per game; Bedford is allowing 8.4 points per game.
Not only did Londonderry and Bedford remain in the top two spots in this week’s statewide poll, the number of points they received stayed the same. Likewise, the next three, Nashua North (5-0), Salem (4-1) and Exeter (4-1), kept their previous-week spots after weekend victories over rivals.
Division II teams made their mark this week, with Bow, Souhegan of Amherst, Kennett of Conway and Milford all in the top 10.
The Sabers, unranked all season, sit at No. 9 after beating then-No. 6 Milford on the road last Friday. Kennett (5-0) moves into the poll at No. 10 (tie) after another one-sided triumph, the Eagles’ fourth in five outings.
