Luigi’s Pizza annexed the Amoskeag Cup in the Manchester 40-Plus Hockey League championship game with a 6-5 overtime win over LeClerc State Farm Insurance.

It looked like a runaway in the making as Luigi’s surged to a 3-0 first-period lead as Mike Gamache tallied twice and then Scott Greenwood got one.

But LeClerc returned fire with two first-period goals when Butch Greenwood and Dave Beliveau scored. Tony Cabana then tied the game at 3-3 with his goal early in the second period.

Luigi’s Don Bergeron gave his team a 4-3 lead with his goal. Steve Veilleux increased the lead to 5-3 when he scored late in the second period.

Dave Beliveau’s second goal of the game got LeClerc to within one, followed by a game tying goal by Mike McGaffigan with only 1:49 left in regulation, sending the game into overtime.

It looked like a shootout might have been in the offing until Luigi’s captain, Craig Beck, scored the winning goal 3:35 into the extra session.

Gamache and Bergeron each added two assists for the winners. McGaffigan had three helpers for LeClerc, Cabana two.

Jamie Pinard earned the win for Luigi’s, making 25 saves in the process.

Mark Sloan had 28 saves for LeClerc.
