LeClerc State Farm Insurance erupted for five first-period goals and then held on to defeat Visiting Angels 5-3 in recent Manchester men’s hockey league action.
LeClerc (2-0-1) got goals from five players: Greg Wood, Lance Laverriere, Dave Chaput, Rich Verrier and Bruce Belanger. Daren Blais chipped in with two assists. Visiting Angels (0-3-0) was led by Artie Soucey, who scored twice, and Paul Kelley. Mark Sloan earned the win and made 18 saves; Rocky Desrosiers had 32 saves for VA.
The second game saw Luigi’s Pizza (3-0-1) remain unbeaten with a 6-2 win over Atlas Precision Metal Fabricators. Mike Berube led the way for the winners as he registered a hat trick. Chuck April, Mike Van Uden and team captain Craig Beck rounded out the scoring for Luigi’s. Mike Gamache and Gene Webber each had two assists. Dan LaBerge scored both goals for Atlas (0-3-0). Dan Smith had 22 saves for Luigi’s; Dave Anstey had 30 for Atlas.
Paced by Gene Webber, who recorded his second hat trick in as many games, Luigi’s Pizza went on the defeat Phaneuf Funeral Homes 8-2. Eric Grant tallied twice for the winners, who also got goals from Mike Mailloux, Mike Berube and Jim Doherty. Mike Gamache chipped in with three assists. Guy Montminy and Steve DesRuisseaux scored for Phaneuf. Dan Smith earned the win for Luigi’s, needing to make only 13 saves. Larry Dunn faced 35 shots in the Phaneuf net.
LeClerc State Farm Insurance 5, Atlas Precision Metal Fabricators 0: Mark Sloan registered 19 saves for LeClerc en route to the shutout. Rich Verrier led the LeClerc offense with two goals. Lance Laverriere, Jim Figueira and Kelly Morgan, the league’s all-time leading scorer, also had goals for the winners. Jamie Pinard had 31 saves in the net for Atlas.
Goalie Jon Komarek had his second consecutive superb game propelling Phaneuf Funeral Homes to a 3-1 triumph over Atlas Precision Metal Fabricators. He had 28 saves. Scoring for Phaneuf were Steve DesRuisseaux, Guy Montminy and Danny Leblanc. The lone Atlas goal came from Tony Hallee. Mark Crowley had 27 saves for Atlas.
The second game featured another fine goaltending effort, this by Dan Smith as Luigi’s Pizza defeated Visiting Angels 8-1. Gene Webber paced Luigi’s with three goals, followed by Sean Ashburner and Eric Grant, who tallied twice each. Scott Legasse rounded out the scoring for Luigi’s. Jim Doherty chipped in with three assists. Jim Figueira scored for the Angels. Smith had 20 saves for Luigi’s as VA’s Rocky Desrosiers was facing 41 Luigi’s shots.
LeClerc State Farm Insurance 1, Luigi’s Pizza 1 (tie): LeClerc’s goal was scored by Jason Nadeau with assists going to Dave Chaput and team captain Marc Morin. The Luigi’s tally came from Jim Doherty, assisted by Dave Villeneuve. Both goalies played exceptionally well with LeClerc’s Mark Sloan registering 26 saves and Luigi’s goalie Dan Smith stopping 25.
Phaneuf Funeral Homes 3, Visiting Angels 2: Phaneuf’s Steve Smith assisted on goals by Roy Chamberlain and Steve DesRuisseaux. Phil Sirois also scored for the winners. The Angels got goals from Artie Soucey and Larry Dunn. Jon Komarek registered 27 saves en route to the win. Rocky Desrosiers had 29 for VA.
