GLENS FALLS, N.Y.- The Manchester Monarchs scored three goals in the second period to break a 1-1 tie and skated to a 6-1 win over the Adirondack Thunder in first-round ECHL playoffs action Saturday night at Cool Insuring Arena.

The victory gives the third-seeded Monarchs a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series with Game 3 scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at SNHU Arena.

The second-seeded Thunder took a 1-0 lead 4:48 into the game when John Edwardh scored a power-play goal.

The Monarchs tied it with 1:08 remaining in the opening period when Tony Cameranesi beat Adirondack goalie Alex Sakellaropoulos (29 saves), assisted by Pavel Jenys and Bokondji Imama.

Manchester gave itself some breathing room in the second period,with Nic Pierog, Kevin Dufour and Imama each pocketing a goal to stretch the lead to 4-1. 

Michael Doherty and Jenys each scored in the third period to help the Monarchs put the game out of reach.

Charles Williams made 36 saves for Manchester, which finished with a 39-29-2 record in the regular season.
