The Manchester Monarchs were defeated by a last-minute goal in a 4-3 loss to the Maine Mariners on Saturday night at SNHU Arena.
Shortly after the Mariners killed off a five-minute major penalty, Ryan Gropp scored the game-winner at 18:56 of the third the period.
Manchester scored twice in the third-period to close a two-goal deficit. Michael Doherty pushed the puck into the empty net at 1:39. Then Pavel Jenys rocketed a shot high-glove side to the back of the net at 9:47 to make the score 3-3.
The Mariners took the lead early at 3:46 on Scott Savage’s goal. Gropp made it 2-0 at 9:59.
Manchester’s Jack Nevins cut the lead in half at 13:24.
Maine increased its lead to 3-1 at 3:24 in the second when Alex Kile scored.
The Monarchs return to action Thursday at Maine.
