Former UNH goalie Danny Tirone, acquired by the Manchester Monarchs earlier in the day, came on in relief on Friday night and allowed one goal over the final two periods in a 5-4 Monarchs loss to the Reading Royals in an ECHL game at SNHU Arena in Manchester.

Tirone, who graduated from UNH last spring and played in six games for the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers — including four this season — stopped nine shots over the final two periods as the Monarchs tried to recover from a 4-2 deficit after one period. Tirone relieved Chris Driedger at the first intermission.

Cory Ward tallied two goals for Manchester and Daniil Miromanov scored with 1:07 remaining in the game to make it 5-4, but that was as close as the Monarchs got.
