Second-round leader Steve Stricker birdied the 18th hole Saturday and enters the final round of the Regions Tradition with a two-shot lead over three players in Birmingham, Ala.
Stricker’s third birdie of the third round gave him a 2-under 70 for the day and moved him to 14-under 202 at the Greystone’s Founders Course.
The 52-year-old Stricker is trying to win his first PGA Tour Champions major. His best finish in a major on the PGA Tour was runner-up to Vijay Singh at the 1998 PGA Championship.
The three players chasing Stricker at 12 under are Bernhard Langer, David Toms and Billy Andrade.
Langer carded five birdies en route to a 4-under 68 on Saturday. Toms drained a 40-foot birdie putt from the fringe at the seventh hole and carded a 70. Andrade opened the third round with one of his three birdies and shot a 3-under 69.
Tom Byrum tallied seven birdies and turned in the low round of the day with a 6-under 66, moving him into a fifth-place tie at 10 under with Paul Goydos.
Defending champion Miguel Angel Jimenez posted a 5-over 77 and is tied for 37th at 1 under.
Charles Schwab Cup leader Scott McCarron is tied for 57th at 3 over after shooting par Saturday.
